England coach Eddie Jones hailed his players for taking it to “the God of rugby” after they recorded a stunning semi-final victory over New Zealand.

England’s dominant 19-7 triumph came against a nation seeking its third successive world title.

But the All Blacks crashed to a first World Cup defeat since the 2007 tournament, with England charging forward to face twice world champions South Africa.

The Springboks are into the final after a 19-16 victory over Wales thanks to fly-half Handre Pollard’s match-winning penalty four minutes from time.

South Africa have lost only once in their last 11 games – the 23-13 pool defeat to New Zealand.

Speaking before the final, head coach Rassie Erasmus said: “We are accustomed to the way they play and we think we are in with a chance.

“They are much better than when we last faced them in November, and you could see that in the way they dismantled New Zealand, but I am not sure it will be a final won through an expansive gameplan and wonderful tries.

“We know that there are areas of our game we will need to improve on to win, and we have a six-day turnaround. We are used to a team that has a fast running game because we play New Zealand regularly, but we are still at the stage where we need to be able to adapt.”
